Safety and Security Disclosure for 2006

Wayland is concerned about your safety and security.  We assure you that we place a high priority on maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.  We cannot, however, guarantee the absolute safety of any particular person.  Since safety begins with the individual, you must take the responsibility for your own personal safety.

Crimes should be reported to the campus office during business hours.  Crimes may be reported 24 hours a day by contacting the San Antonio Police Department at 207-7484 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies.

Because most classes at Wayland are held during the evening hours, classrooms are kept locked during the day.  The campus office is open during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Classrooms are opened at 5:30 p.m. and are closed and locked at 10:10 p.m.

Campus security is provided by a security company.  Regular patrol of the campus is made by these officers from 5:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. and consists of checking all campus premises including classrooms and parking areas.  The officers may be contacted through the campus office.

The building housing the Wayland office and classrooms has four outside entry/exit doors.  One of these doors is opened during the business day.  The other three are opened at 5:30 p.m. and closed at 10:30 p.m.

Lighting in the parking areas is on a photocell.  The timing sequence is provided for the safety of staff personnel and students during their arrival and departure to the facility.

Wayland Baptist University prohibits the use of illegal drugs or alcohol.  Wayland forbids the possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and/or paraphernalia and alcohol by the students and employees on its property or as a part of any activity of the University.  Compliance with these standards of conduct for both students and employees is mandatory.  Firearms for protection or for sport are strictly prohibited at Wayland.  Anyone bringing weapons or firearms onto campus property will be dealt with according to the law.

In compliance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, Wayland reports the following crime statistics for the period of January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006.  These statistics include incidents occurring on a campus-wide basis.
