Ever Brighter Tomorrow

Wayland’s campus must continue to
expand
Currently the
campus at Wayland Baptist University is at full capacity and no space
available for new programs or services.
Wayland
Baptist University’s San Antonio campus needs to expand its facilities to meet
the growing educational needs of South Texas.
Wayland has
added five traditional degree programs and four master’s degree programs since
2001. The graduates from these programs are helping meet critical shortages
primarily in nursing and education. Additional space is needed to expand the
capacity in these degree programs.
Wayland’s
classrooms are full, and our ability to add new programs, faculty and classroom
space is seriously limited. In order to keep up with increasing demand we must
ensure the door for opportunity is open for students who are looking to Wayland
to meet their needs.
We must expand.
San Antonio’s education needs are
growing
Estimates
show that 80% of San Antonio's workforce is without a four -year university
degree. Our families are earning less per capita than in similar metropolitan
areas often due to the lack of opportunity for an affordable college degree
program.
Wayland
Baptist University addresses this need every day with programs designed for
working adults and military families.
Growth at
Wayland’s campus has been steady since its formation in 1984, and enrollment now
tops 1,500 students. This success is due to keeping costs low, providing
personal attention and quality in the classroom.
Wayland is
set to meet this need.
Wayland Baptist University – San Antonio proposes to
construct a 65,000 square-foot facility at its campus located at IH 35 North and
O’Connor. The capital campaign goal is $6 million, with an $8 million challenge
goal.

History of Wayland
The
oldest university in continuous existence on the High Plains of Texas, Wayland
Baptist University began as the dream of pioneers who respected the
life-altering value of education. In 1908 Wayland Literary and Technical
Institute opened its doors with a gift from Dr. and Mrs. James Henry Wayland
offered $10,000 and 25 acres of land.
By
2000, system-wide enrollment exceeded 6,000, making Wayland the third-largest
Baptist University in the United States. To date, system-wide enrollment is
approaching 7,000 students. The Wayland system is comprised of the main campus
in Plainview, Texas, twelve external campuses, and an operation in Nairobi,
Kenya.
The San Antonio campus opened in 1984, moved into the current campus building in 2001
and is the largest of the WBU campuses. We currently offer seven undergraduate
degrees and seven master degree programs in San Antonio and enrolled over 1,500
in fall 2007.
