Hazardous Material Incident
The San Antonio is situated close to Interstate Highway 35 which is designated as a hazardous route in Bexar County. As such the possibility of an incident involving hazardous material is greater than if we were located in a remote area. Shown below is the Bexar County Hazmat route as approved by the Texas Transportation Commission on June 28, 2001, for non-radioactive hazardous materials.
Generally, the hazmat route follows Loop 410 and branches out to several corridors leading out of Bexar County. Those additional corridors include: I-10, I-35, I-37, US 87, US 90, US 181, US 281, and State Highway 16. All through-traffic for non-radioactive hazardous material transportation is prohibited through downtown San Antonio. This hazmat plan only affects related traffic traveling through Bexar County.
