Financial assistance is available from a number of sources for Wayland students. GRANTS PELL - a need-based Federal grant. SEOG - a need-based, first come-first served Federal grant for a limited number of Wayland students. You must be eligible for a PELL on your Student Aid Report (SAR) to be eligible for this grant. TEG - a need-based, first come-first served State grant. You must be enrolled in nine semester hours and must be a Texas resident. Student must have lived in Texas at least one year prior to attending school. STUDENT LOANS Subsidized Stafford - a need-based low interest-rate loan (8.25%). The government pays the interest for you while you are in school and for a 6-month grace period afterwards. If you are eligible for this loan, you must be enrolled in at least 6 hours undergraduate level or 3 hours graduate level to receive Stafford loans. Payments on this loan may be deferred till 6 months after you graduate, are no longer enrolled, or drop below half time. Unsubsidized Stafford - a non-need-based low interest-rate loan (8.25%). The government will not pay any interest for you; you may defer payment on this loan (interest as well as principal) as well. MINISTERIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - these are limited scholarship aid given by the Baptist General Convention of Texas for students who are called into full-time Christian ministry. Southern Baptist - Students preparing for careers in the ministry may receive up $50 per semester hour for freshman and sophomore, and up to $75 per semester hour for junior and senior. Graduate students may receive up to $100 per semester hour. The student's degree plan must include a religion major. The student must be a member of a BGCT church. This scholarship is available for the fall, winter and spring terms only. Ethnic Missions - working with Hispanic Churches within the Southern Baptist Convention. Pays $27 per hour for 12 hours or more with a max of $400. Texas Black Baptist - working with Black Baptist Churches within the Southern Baptist Convention. Pays $33 per credit hour up to a max of $266 per semester. Baptist Minister's Dependent - The dependent spouse or dependent single child of a full-time Baptist minister are eligible. External campus award is up to $190 per semester hour. The student must be a religion major and enrolled in a full-time status. MILITARY RELATED ASSISTANCE ACTIVE DUTY - Tuition Assistance usually pays up to 100% of tuition not to exceed the government cap. You will need to pay the remaining portion at the time of registration, either in full or using the Three-Payment Plan. TXNG-TAP - Texas National Guard Tuition pays $67 per credit hour for the number of hours approved. Contact (512) 465-5515, the Camp Mabry Education Services Office. Student must bring to registration the completed TAP form with his or her name on it. DD Form 1556 - For eligible government civilian employees, usually pays 100% of tuition. VETERANS VA Benefits - pays tuition and fees only for active duty. VA pays the student, not Wayland, so you must pay at registration, either in full or using the three-payment plan. You must have remaining eligibility to receive VA benefits. VA Rehab (Chapter 31) – For eligible disabled veterans, usually pays 100% of tuition, fees, and books. EMPLOYER ASSISTANCE Check with your employer to see if your company has a tuition assistance or reimbursement program. If your company pays Wayland directly, regardless of your grades or whether or not you complete the course, you may register with a voucher from your employer. If they reimburse you after you submit your grades, you will need to pay Wayland when you register. WAYLAND PAYMENT PLAN Three-Payment Plan - pay 1/3 of tuition plus all fees at registration. Second payment of 1/3 of tuition is due 30 days later; and third payment of 1/3 tuition is due 60 days later. A service charge of $5.00 per course is assessed. Any student paying with a check returned for non-sufficient funds or with a credit card that is declined will be withdrawn from all classes if that student’s account is not corrected within five (5) business days. All declined checks are automatically re-deposited by the bank for a second time before the university is notified. A $20 fee is charged each time.
