DESCRIPTION: A systems approach to
the study of organizations, influence of macro and micro environments on
organization activity, alternative design process, organizational change and
development, and applications of situational/contingency theory of management.
PREREQUISITE(s): MGMT 3304. Principles of Management -
Concepts of management for both profit and non profit organizations; management
functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling; and managerial
skills and roles in today's environment.

OUTCOME
COMPETENCIES:
Upon completion of this course the student should be
able to:

Define and Understand supervisors’ role and challenges
in today’s environment.

Identify the significant changes that have occurred in
the composition of the workforce.

Define productivity, benchmarking, and six sigma, and
critical path.
·
Describe the ingredients common to goal-setting.
·
Explain how strategic and business planning should link
from the top to the bottom of an organization.

Define organizing, and, describe and discuss how to
organize an effective department.

Understand how to acquire the right people and describe
the Human Resource Management process to include appraisals, feedback, conflict resolution and labor relations.

Describe how to design and implement controls.
·
Understand the decision-making process; describe
decision styles and approaches to problem solving.

Define motivation and be able to identify motivational
theories.

Explain the effect of workforce diversity on motivating
employees.

Define/describe groups, teams, effective leadership styles
and communication processes.

REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATION:
Examinations: Mid-term (1 July) / Final (5
August) = 60% of the final grade; 30% each
1st Report: Oral presentation only (10 June; 5-7
minute) = 5% of final grade; provide outline

Report (Part I): Written presentation
(22 July; 8-10 pp/dbl sp;
2nd
Report (Part II): Oral presentation of
paper (2 August; 5-7 minutes) = 5% of final grade
Attendance: 5%

Participation and

ATTENDANCE
POLICY: Students
will make every effort to attend all class meetings. If you must be absent for any legitimate
reason; i.e., if you are providentially hindered due to work requirements,
illness or emergency, you must contact the instructor to explain. The instructor will determine a makeup plan
for missed class work. Three or more
absences (25% or more of the 11 week period) may constitute failure. If you anticipate excessive absences,, you should consider withdrawal according to WBU’s
policy. An unexcused absence can equate
to a letter grade drop; however, the following will apply to this class:

VERBAL/WRITTEN REPORTS:
Note the course outline/calendar above. For the first report, students will make a 5-7 minute oral presentation to the
class covering a specific, related topic from the text or as determined by the
instructor. Students will receive a
requirements sheet detailing both oral presentations and the written research
paper in class.
For the written report, students will use the
American Psychological Association (
Deviation from the oral and written parameters
will impact the grading criteria. The
instructor will discuss
deliverables and makeup of tests and/or reports during classes.
Field trips and/or
special guest speakers to class TBD, and as time permits.
GRADING:
A/B/C/D/F = 4/3/2/1/0 GPA
Accordingly – A = 90-100%; B = 80-89%; C =
70-79%; D = 60-69%; F = Below 60%
