A.                 Catalog Description:  A comparative analysis of the diverse cultural groups in the United States and their changing sociological, economical, and political status.

 

B.                 Textbook:   Racial and Ethnic Groups by Richard T. Schaefer

 

C.                 Requirements for Undergraduate Credit:

a.   2 Test                                       50%

b.   Paper                                       25%

c.   Essay                                       10%

d.   Field Trip summaries                 10%

e.   Attendance                               5%

 

Per WBU policy, three tardies will count as one absence.  Per WBU policy, three absences will result in failing the course.  Please contact the instructor if you have TDY/ TAD or an emergency situation.  Attendance may be taken at the end of the class also.  Two absences will lower the final grade by five (5) points

D.                 Methods for assessing outcomes:

Competencies (skills/ abilities) student will acquire:

Student will have a working understanding of the role of Forensic Psychology within the entire law enforcement community; police, investigators, attorneys, and the court system.   They will understand the theories that psychologist and law enforcement officials use to deal with crime in America.

 

Test:

Information in the text and the workbook will be tested through multiple choice, matching and essay questions.  There will be a minimum of 40 multiple choice,10 matching and two essay questions on every test.  Make up test will be given in essay format only.

 

Paper:

Write a 5-7 page paper excluding the title page and cite page on a topic which will be      discussed on Monday, June 9, 2008.  The paper must be in APA format and have at least 3 cites (book cannot be used as one of the cites).   -10 points per week for Late work

 

Essay:  The essay will discuss the 3 field trips.  The essay must be 5 paragraphs in length with the minimum of 5 sentences per paragraph.  There must be a beginning 3 supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. . -10 points per week for Late work

 

 

Field Trip Events: 

 

There are 3 field trips that you can go on in order to write your essay.  If for some reason you can not make the field trip on the assigned day you are more than welcome to go on the field trips with your families.  You may choose any of the following 3 field trips:

 

1.       Spanish Governors’ Palace cost $1.00 entry

2.       Witte Museum Free after 3pm on Tuesday evenings

3.       The Alamo Cost ;  Free

4.       Institute of Texan Cultures         Cost:     $7.00

 

You are required to turn in 3 summaries of the field trips as to the educational experience minimum of one paragraph.  Due Monday July 7, 2008. -10 points per week for Late work

E.                  Method of Instruction

The class will meet on Monday and Wednesday mornings from May 26, 2008 through August 6, 2008.  The class will meet from 10:10 am to 12:10 pm at Wayland Baptist University Main Campus
