9. Catalog Description: This course
will address linking organizational needs with individual career needs.
Emphasis will be placed on development of systems for managing careers within a
variety of organizational structures ranging from manufacturing to service
industries to governmental organizations. The impact of globalization and
workforce diversity on the inter-organizational development of leadership and
management talents, skills, and abilities will also be included.

13. Course Outcome Competencies:
Upon
completion of this course the student should be able to:

Define
human resource management, describe the components of organizational culture,
discuss psychological contact formed by members of an organization, and explain
the functions of the Success System Model.

Formulate
a written explanation of how equal employment practices are tied to everyday
workplace conduct, identify and discuss current workplace legislation and how
it affects today’s leaders, and define the concept of dispute resolution.
·
Conduct
a job analysis and provide a written plan for implementation of the results.
·
Outline
steps in developing a recruiting program in an organization.
·
Describe
and explain the major employee testing techniques.
·
Describe
through role play the process and skills involved in an effective performance
appraisal review.
·
Identify
and describe the major types of training methods and techniques utilized in the
workplace today.

Describe
the stages in the career process.

Describe
the relationship of compensation to goals of employee satisfaction and
productivity.

14. Attendance Requirements:
Students are allowed one absence if due
to work, illness, funeral, etc. The
second absence will result in a five point deduction. A third absence will result in another 5
points and possibly failure in the course, unless the absences are of a dire
nature as determined by the instructor.
A fourth absence will result in course failure in all circumstances.

16: Course Requirements and Grading Criteria:
Examinations: Mid-semester,
and final - (100 pts each). Exams will
be short answer, multiple choice, and essay-type questions
Presentation of Research
Project: (100 pts).
Criteria for grading oral
presentation
1. Student introduced him/herself and topic
2. Briefing was well-organized and professional
(not read from slides or paper)
3. Presentation integrated concepts from course
4. Clear recommendations/analysis presented
5. Student analyzed
issues, and did not simply re-tell the story
Written research project (100 pts). Students will analyze an organization’s: Training Plan, Organizational Development
Plan, Diversity Plan or other HR plan discussed in the course. Students may also look at the learning
competencies in the syllabus and develop one of the competencies into a plan
for their organization. The organization
will either be the student’s own organization, one with which he/she is
familiar, or one taken from the literature.
The student will take the role of a consultant in this analysis. The first part of the paper (2-3 pages) will
discuss the existing plan under consideration (if applicable). The remainder of the paper (4-8 pages) will analyze this plan and see if it meets
established goals (if any), and offer recommendations for improvement of the
plan. Students are to integrate concepts from the course into both parts of
this project.
Discussion

students will turn in completed Chapter
