COURSE TITLE:                  Concepts of Fitness

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Course include lectures, discussion, applied workshop which leads to understanding lifelong fitness, exercise,

                                                fitness assessment and nutrition

COURSE OBJECTIVE:      

 

At the conclusion of the course, each student will have greater knowledge in the

below listed areas:

 

  1. The health, lifestyle and wellness relationship
  2. The maintenance of a healthy lifestyle
  3. Setting realistic lifestyle goals while meeting the wellness criteria
  4. The evaluation of ones fitness level
  5. The concept of the four basic elements of fitness; cardiovascular, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition

 

COURSE PROCESSES: 

 

The course will consist of lecture, text discussion, field assignment reports, laboratory

training and certain aspects of Nutrition and Weight Management.  The laboratory aspect

will include the major techniques involved in the fitness assessment and interpretation of

results.  Students will also be required to participate in exercise aerobics class

demonstration, which will be lead by the course instructor.

 

 

 

COURSE ADMINISTARION:

 

1.  Class Preparation: 

- During each class session, a particular text topic will be discussed; each student is to have read the topic prior to the class session.

- Any Lab assignment must be completed on the assigned date.

- Be prepared for pop quiz on all reading assignment after the first class session.

 

2.  Participation & Assignment Policies:

            - Attendance at lectures and class activities is mandatory.

            - Students are allowed TWO unexcused absences.  For each additional absence,

            10 points will be subtracted from the individual’s total.   

            - Please DO NOT miss class on scheduled review/exam dates.  If for any foreseen reason you will not be able to make an exam date please contact the instructor prior to the class session.

            - Please speak with the instructor individually regarding any specific concerns you feel may affect your attendance, classroom participation or FINAL GRADE.   

            - Plagiarism practices are consistence with that of this University…WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

 

3.  Student Evaluation:

- The student’s final course grade is based on the following weighted criteria

A.  Field Report - - 25pts

B.  Mid Term      - - 74 pts

C.     Final Exam   - - 75pts

 

- A= 153-174

- B= 135-152

- C= 117-134

- D= 101-116

- F= 100 and below

 

4.  Assignments:

-- Students will complete a workout plan (in class). 

                        -- The Mid Term exam will cover materials prior to fifth or sixth week.

                        -- The Field Report, during the assignment week, student will locate,

                        contact and visit a health related facility of their choice (fitness club,

rehab center, health clinic, etc).  Students will be asked to write a summary of their experiences based on the guidelines provided by the instructor.    

                        -- The students will be administered a Final Exam covering all materials

                        beginning on sixth week though the end of the course. The test will consist

of multiple choice, fill in the blank, true/false and essay questions.
