Catalog Description: American experiences from Reconstruction through the period of Industrialization, Overseas Expansion, Agrarian Agitation, Progressivism, World War I and II, and the Cold War to the present.

 

Textbook: America Past and Present, Volume 8, by Robert A. Divine

 

Course Outcome Competencies: At the conclusion of this course, the student will understand and be able to describe:

      1. Economic, social and political transformation of the United States from the closing     of the frontier to 1900.

      2. Emergence of the United States as a world power.

      3. Social and political changes of the Progressive Era.

      4. Life of the 1920’s and the Era of the Great Depression and the New Deal.

      5. Causes, course and impact of the World War II.

      6. Political and social changes since World War II.

 

Attendance: Students enrolled at one of the University’s external campuses should make every effort to attend all class meetings. All absences must be explained to the instructor, who will then determine whether the omitted work may be made up. When a student reaches that number of absences considered by the instructor to be excessive, the instructor will also advise the student and file an unsatisfactory progress report with the campus dean. Ant student who misses 25 percent of the regularly scheduled class meeting may receive a grade of F in the course. Additional attendance policies for each course, as defined by the instructor in the syllabus, are considered a part of the University’s attendance policy.

 

Service for the disabled: It is University policy that no otherwise qualified disabled person be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity in the University. Student should inform the instructor of existing disabilities at the first class meeting.

Method of determining course grade:  The University has a standard grad scale: A = 90-100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 60-69; F = below 60; WP = withdrew passing; WF = with drew failing; I = incomplete.

 

Instructor’s policy on Academic Dishonesty: Cheating will not be tolerated! Any work that you get off the internet must be cited properly. Cheating will result in the grade of (0) for that assignment. If there is a second offense the student will receive an “F” for the course and scholastic disciplinary action.
